![]() There’s more, but iCYMI this comment was posted on the Arkansas Blog last night. Gee another rich guy decides what poor people need. The Republican mantra is, “Keep ‘em sick, keep ‘em hungry, & keep ‘em poor.” That way the people will be begging to be your corporate slaves. Hutchinson has no idea just how hard it is to rent, and how few places there are that people can afford.ġ3 states are sending checks averaging $600 apiece to their citizens to help offset gas & grocery prices. Get out of the Governor’s mansion and see what’s really happening in Arkansas. “He said the money wasn’t needed in Arkansas because people were back to work at pre-pandemic levels.” Governor, spend a day with the churches/orgs getting daily calls from people facing eviction. ![]() You mean to tell me a man living in a fancy mansion on the taxpayers’ dime while also owning a home in the gated Pinnacle Country Club subdivision doesn’t understand the plight of the unemployed, the underemployed and those facing eviction due to skyrocketing housing costs? No government handouts for you!! We all know how repubs hate to help hungry and/or homeless families and children.ĭoes he hate low-income Arkansans so much that he would refuse $146M in federal housing assistance? In one of the poorest states in the country? Where there are no minimum rental housing standards & it is a felony not to pay rent? This is most likely related to ASA!’s plans to run for president. 24% of children in Arkansas live in poverty and this man takes it upon himself to rob the poorest Arkansans of $146million in FEDERAL, not state, assistance. In nearly the poorest state in America, this is a disgusting decision made by a weak man. There are teenagers who have aged out of foster care who need housing assistanceĪs high as gas, food, and rent is and you turning down money that could help the very folks that put you in office. This is a keeper for all those who have told me that Asa is is a moderate, not one of those crazy Republicans, just a common sense guy trying to keep the outer fringes in line. So my governor is refusing federal housing assistance to the 4th poorest state in the country. He obviously has not walked into a public housing office and been told that there is a year wait to even apply. Since the money is going to just tenants and not tenants AND Landlords, he’s refusing it. Is this the strategy all Republicans are using to get to Heaven? In the morning he will post his usual Bible verse and eat Porterhouse steak for supper. Today Asa closes another door on the homeless/poor (most working). Saying he might use it for foster care/homeless-implies that if a family loses their home or a parent loses their child/children to foster care as a result of poverty/being evicted-it’s acceptable. He assumes they aren’t working if they need rental assistance.Īrkansas is refusing the federal $ that prevents families from becoming HOMELESS. He’s grossly out of touch with the realities of most folks in need and our large population of working class poor. Contractor Deloitte hired to run pgm was awful. AR received $173m spent only small portion. People waited months for applications to be processed, if not “lost.” Many were evicted while waiting. He’s totally glossing over dumpster fire DHS Arkansas Rent Relief program was. Take the housing assistance money and use it! ![]() My grandson who is almost 24 and works full time at Sam’s Club for starvation wages, his lovely wife, and 3 children under 8, including a toddler, have trouble making rent if anything goes wrong. Some sample comments from a torrent of social media feedback to Hutchinson’s cold refusal of federal money (an act in keeping with the state’s mishandling of the first round of the rental assistance money and its cruel and botched handling of of pandemic unemployment assistance.): ![]() There are people working multiple jobs in Arkansas who are struggling, thanks to low pay, inflation and cruel landlords.
